Mindful during the busy Holiday season

Mindful during the busy Holiday season

For most of us the to do list in December is so long, that it is difficult to find some quiet, ME time. But for me personally these are exactly the times where I need that the most. I feel like I am a much calmer, stress-free, focused and aware of my own feelings and emotions when I take the time to be mindful every single day. I know that it is never easy to find the time, that’s why I am sharing my favorite ways to incorporate some “ME” time each day:

  • when you wake up in the morning, don’t grab your mobile right away to check all the e-mails, messages, etc…..try to look at it only when you are leaving for work! Speaking from my own experience, I know it is very difficult at first, but you will see that with the time it will get better:)
  • wake up 10-15 minutes before anybody else (especially if you have kids!), and meditate. If meditation is not your “thing”, then simply take the time to listen to your breath, to stretch your body, to fully wake up your mind and body
  • during the day, make sure that you take a few minutes each hour simply to listen to your breath, or get up and make a few steps…….whatever that might be, simply take a break from what you are doing to get in touch with your emotions and feelings right that moment
  • end your day with 10-20min journaling – it could be around your day, a particular occasion that keeps your mind occupied, about your feelings, upcoming event…..anything really that keeps your mind occupied! I know that a lot of people don’t like journaling, but it actually helps us better understand certain emotions and feelings that we have, and it might make us look at certain situation from a different angle
  • take the time during the day to go out for a walk……even if it is just for a few minutes, still do it! Look at your surroundings, listen to the different noises, listen to how your body feels
  • listen to your favorite song……when I say listen,  I mean really listen – figure out what kind of emotions does this song evoke in you, does it remind you of a particular time, etc
  • make yourself a warm cup of tea (or coffee), and take the time to drink it by simply enjoying the smell and the taste
  • no matter how cold it is, get out for a run (you can call me crazy, but this is my personal favorite) – focus on your breath, and your body…..listen to what your body is telling you! The fresh air will help you de-stress and get your mind free
  • book a massage or a facial and enjoy getting pampered and let go of any worries

We are all different, and what works for me, might not work for you……that’s why I challenge you to find out what works best for you!

Stay healthy and mindful

Anna
