As parents of two little children, we want to treat them the best possible way - without being too strict, but at the same time to also not spoil them. I think that every parent will agree with me that this is not an easy task. I am always on the lookout for interesting books when it comes to that topic. About six months ago or so I came across a great book by Dr. Shefali Tsabary (www.drshefali.com) called "The Conscious Parent".
I personally think that this is a must read for every parent out there! There are a few reasons behind it. The main one being that I absolutely love her whole philosophy on how we as parents, should treat our children in order for them to become self-confident children and later on adults! It is not a rocket science, it is actually extremely simple and it should come natural to all of us.
Another reason why I like this book so much is because she shares a lot of different examples, which makes it even easier to understand......or even relate! Furthermore, I like the emphasis that Dr. Shefali puts on the fact that our kids are not our mini me - they are individuals from day one, and they should be treated as such! I think that we are all aware of this, but sometimes along the daily routine and life, we tend to forget this!
Last, but not least I think that this book can give us a lot of food for thought not only when it comes to our relationship with our kids, but also our relationships with our loved ones, close friends, and in general. In my personal opinion, if you are open to it, this book can give you so much more then "just" ideas on how you can parent best.
Dr. Shefali has written couple of more books, which I will discuss later on in the year. Until then share your favourite parenting book.......or if you have read this one, share your thoughts!
